Significant Impact Factor Boost for Scientific Journal Genome Research

COLD SPRING HARBOR, N.Y. (July 7, 2008) – Earlier this month, ThomsonReuters released the 2007 Journal Citation Reports, which includes impact factors for the world’s most important scholarly journals. The scientific journal Genome Research, published by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, was reported with an impact factor of 11.224, a considerable gain over 10.256 in 2006.

An impact factor is a measure of a journal’s significance in an academic field. It takes into account the frequency with which the "average article" in a journal is cited by other articles in the same field over a period of time. For example, Genome Research’s 2007 journal impact factor takes into account citations that occurred in 2007 to articles published in 2005 and 2006.

Genome Research now ranks #2 amongst primary research journals in the “Biotechnology & Applied Microbiology” category, #3 in “Genetics & Heredity,” and seventh in the “Biochemistry & Molecular Biology” category. As evidenced by these numbers, Genome Research continues to be a serious contender in these fields.

In addition to its rising impact factor, Genome Research has a fast manuscript turn-around time—generally less than 30 days. Genome Research also supports continuous online publication, and their newest initiative has accepted preprints online within hours.
